On 18 September 1910, New Jersey Central planned a special round trip excursion from Matawan to West Point and Newburgh, NY, according to an advertisement found in the Matawan Journal ten days earlier. A special train would depart Matawan at 8:16 am, followed by a voyage aboard the railroad's river steamer SS Sandy Hook to points of interest along the Hudson River. Tickets for this trip were $1.25 for adults and .65 for children.

The newspaper posted the summer hours of the Matawan Free Public Library. As of 1 June, 1910, the library would be open Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday evenings from 7:30 to 8:30,, and Wednesday afternoons from 4 to 5. The library would not be open Saturday afternoons during the summer.

I also found this 100-year-old ad for Michelin Tires. The ad says J T Clowes of Matawan sells tires. The 1910 Federal Census shows a Joshua T Clowes, 48 years old, enumerated in Matawan, along with his wife Ella (46) and son Frank (14). The census says Joshua was a retail merchant at a confectionery as of June of that year. Mr Clowes's parents were from England and his wife was from New York.
